Situated in the Ionian Sea and stretching over an area of 410 square kilometers, Zakynthos is the third largest of the Ionian Islands. With its stunning geological formations and mirror clean waters, the island has become one of the most desired destinations in Greece. Zakynthos island has 123 km of coastline, and its population is just over 40,000 inhabitants. Its shape is irregular triangle, the most interesting part is the east coast, which is overlooking the Peloponnese and boasts the most beautiful beaches. It’s beaches are the most proud of Zakynthos and the most famous of them is Navagio located in the so-called Gulf of Survivors, it can not be confused with any other in the world. Access to this paradise, where turquoise waters contrasting with the white sand is only water as it is surrounded by high cliffs up to 200 meters.
Another interesting place worth visiting the island’s famous Blue Caves are located near the town Volimes. Access to them is again only in water, the route passes through stunning natural formations of caves and arches. The name comes from Zakynthos son of the Arcadian chief Dardanus, the island is mentioned as early as the Homeric poems. Besides tourism, there is a strong and agriculture by growing olives, citrus fruits and grapes for raisins.
